The Heart of the Matter

Yesterday there was a programme on TV called "Bodyshocks" that looked into the psychological impact of heart transplants. Many patients have experienced memories and even personality changes that may be caused as a result of heart transplants. Recent research has indicated that there is a neural connection between the heart and the brain (central nervous system). It is possible that some of our memory and consciousness may be stored in the heart as well as or in addition to the brain. This may be true in other parts of the body. Memories and personality traits of the donor occur over time in some recipients. This adds substance to 'feeling' in the heart.

Also, the heart as a pump and electromagnetic muscle generates 20-100 times more magnetic energy than the brain and this can be detected up to 6 feet away. This brings a whole new meaning to 'personal space'. In addition to this the energy patterns found in aura photographs and energy bodies seen and experienced through spiritual practice could be linked. It is nice to see science finding out what intuition has told us for generations (since early civilisation). Further research could concentrate on the process of memory and consciousness linked to the brain but stored in other parts of the body and what happens what purely artificial organs are used to replace real ones.

Direct Writing

There has been an explosion in new technology over the last couple of decades. In terms of computer aided design (CAD) there has until recently been a gap between what can be designed and what can be manufactured. This has meant that a lot of small and intricate computer designs could not be produced via rapid prototyping. Now a new development called Direct Writing will enable us to create just about anything from a 3D CAD design to a working prototype. This includes nano-scale devices, multi-purpose space toolkits and even living cells.

So this technology may impact most industries in the near future. Is this going to mean replacement parts for surgery grown from the patient's cells and pills created to order or are we going to create cybermen and intelligent robots that are used as weapons? Another possibility is teleportation. If the whole body could be scanned and recreated together with a downloaded consciousness then it would be feasible to deconstruct and construct people from point A to point B. This would be at lease 50-100 years away from now.

It is interesting to note that there is a large demand for CAD specialists now and good money. Yet there are fewer and fewer people who wish to enter engineering or the hard science from school. So we may come to a point where it is worth school leavers to reconsider their decisions to enter the media, psychology or arts if a lot of the work is going to be elsewhere by 2020.

Jokes from Leeds #1

Pair of glasses at pub
Where is my pair of glasses? Barman thinks of glasses to drink and punter thinks of glasses to wear.
Have you found my (pair of) glasses?

Time and fact that everyone is scared of change
All time related (you are nor scared of dying you are scared of living), phobias

Tom and Jerry
I introduce two people: "Jerry, this is Tom", "Tom, this is Jerry."

Songs
Gerry Aum song, Dr Who theme song, Batman theme

Horny Dogs
Female dogs with the horn scratch their bellies (visual demo). Told that she likes it (with humans pretneding to be dogs)

Doctor Who
"Doctor Who to win"
"Which Doctor?" (medicine or PhD)
"Yes, Doctor Hew"
"Who?"
"H-U"
"no I mean 'The Doctor' on BBC1"
"Which Doctor?"
"DOCTOR WHO!"

Ideas From Leeds #2

Why are theoretical physicists having trouble with devising a theory of quantum gravity? Could it be that a new form of mathematics is needed or is something else missing (e.g. multi-dimensional time)? So what would 3 or 4 dimensional time be like? Space and time inversion occurs through the event horizon of a black hole. So are these dimensions experientially transferable?

I think that this country and every country should invest heavily now in developing innovative solutions to environmental destruction. Otherwise we would face an extinction of civilisation in 30-50 years time. Solutions include creation of ozone via chemical processes in the atmosphere, and banning of cars or development of safe fuels (e.g. regenerative batteries, nuclear cells!). Also by restriction of the rich and corporations that pollute the air and water, control of future populations, policies to heavily tax polluters and reward environmentally friendly applications, and a sustainable space program. There is also the possibility of sustainable nuclear fusion, creation and harnessing of mini black holes and zero point energy. These are future possibilities that may someday become reality. For example, could zero point energy allow teleportation (instant travel)?

Mind altering drugs create experiences in the head no matter what comes up in the K-hole or trip. They open doors but do not change the outside world (unless this is a projection of the mind, illusion of existence). It is best to live life to the full and get the most out of it. What happens after is immaterial as long as we are happy and respect others.

Is God a DJ or a machine and our universe is his/her/it's experiment? Buddhahood is release from constant existence. Machine reality indicates logic without emotion and hence no soul. If a machine has emotion is cease to be a machine and has a soul. If we are reduced to machines we lose our souls. Now if future humans become cyborgs then it depends on the degree of free thought and emotion that is left as to whether they are free thinking creatures, minds that are trapped (brains in tanks), or not even human. This leads onto the possibilities of multiple layers of existence devised through dreams, 'Matrix' scenarios, recursive experiments (universe within universe, mind within mind).

Chicken and egg issue - there is a race in the universe to attain the degree of mastery that gain control of the universe. An optimum universe can be found from millions of parallels and we become the first to attain enlightenment and be able to select or create universe. If this is so/will be so then our future selves have selected this universe for us to develop in yet this God-like power would mean that we have avoided all the hurdles caused by fluctuating laws of nature, alien colonisation and evolution. Maybe there is more to the statement 'What is God?' then we think.

I'm Feeling Very Ood

I feel very ood - like I have no emotion but at the same time feeling tired and vulnerable. It is so hot and I slept odd hours last night. When the England match was on and David Beckham had a free kick I saw it hit the middle of the wall two seconds before he struck the ball into that part of the wall. Also my body feels like rubber and the air is so thick that it is an effort to do anything and then when I do it such as going to the laundrette I fail to feel the weight in the bags I am carrying.

Also, at the laundrette I phoned my half brother Pete whom I have not spoken to for a while. He told me that my half Sister, Leigh, had died last month and the funeral was on 31st May. I went quiet and then told my Mum. The last time I spoke to Leigh was two months ago when I told her about my girlfriend and she was trying to get hold of Pete about her Will. The irony here is that my girlfriend, Lesley, was attending a friend's funeral this morning. Also, I have felt a little out of touch with things in the last month ot two so maybe the family loss would explain some of it.

Another coincidence is with the name - 'Oood'. The 'Ood' are alien creatures from the last two Doctor Who episodes yet the artist of the first track of the visuals DVD is called Oood. Um...
Synchronicity and procognition have not happened to me for a while (when it did it usually happened in threes). I wonder what all of this means.

I still need to speak to the staff at MMU and am wondering why I have taken so long to sort this out. Also, I was freaked out by the paving outside turning into skeletal forms when speaking to Lesley yesterday night.

I feel Ood now and am attempting some exercise and juggling and perhaps some work on my computer. I have so much outstanding work from three courses, running out of money, and struggling to get into a frame of mind to apply for jobs.

Ideas from Leeds #1

A TV series or film(s) that are a cross between Mighty Boosch and Doctor Who. Summary plot - I wake up in total darkness (origin of existence?), then there are primitive drawings and time steps into successive ages of art and culture. This would be done in different styles reflecting ages of art and culture, e.g. Dali, impressionists, CGI art etc. Exploring meaning of life (in the Monty Python sense). Introduce other characters and have fun together.

Video cameras with full edit suites - may already exist but it would be nice to have all the film-making facilities on tap on a portable device. Even cooler if they are fitted with those new ultra thin fold out screen panels.

I hover over the event horizon(s) of a black hole (one of each of the three types) and drop a periscope video camera into the event horizon. Would the video be viewable through the substance of the connecting rod or not (even though the camera is not retrievable)?

Also, is the quantum foam close to a singularity of a black hole or at the start of the universe similar to the quantum processes inside the brain such that if the mind focusses on them, as in a drug experience, a simulacrum of this experience could be attained? Would this be provable with a theory of quantum gravity as the micro-processes inside the brain would be quantum affected on the atomic and molecular scales?

New Term - "Cyber Tatting" meaning using the net or online communities to obtain items free that still work and would otherwise go to waste in the bin. For example, arranging to collect a TV or printer from someone who has advertised them on the Web (e.g. freecycle)
